Network Solutions
Hungryones.com started with a WP Starter account on fatcow.com at $3.99/month. Our website ran fine for 10 years and when something broke I could get ahold of a human to help me fix it using their chat support in less than 15 minutes.
In 2025 hungryones.com went down for an hour everytime it exceeded the hourly limit on database queries. This happened about once a week or more. This was right before Network Solutions bought out Fatcow. After the sale went through the wait for support was 1-2 hours long. Now chat support is filtered by AI. If the AI can’t guide you to fix the problem you get connected to a human. If the human can’t figure out the problem you are then told the problem is out of scope and direct you to paid support for $99.99/hour. Previously they forwarded the case to level 2 support.

The latest problem I have with Network Solutions is they sent me a warning notice that hungryones.com will be shut down unless I get my file use to under 200,000 files. When I signed up I only did so as they promised unlimited disk space as I knew the blog would grow over the years. I did not know somewhere in the fine print there is a limit to the number of files. This limit is not part of their ad.

Support suggested I get a NVMe plan with their sister company Blue Host. The cheapest plan they had that would accomodate my needs for 240GB storage and 220,000 files was their Standard NVMe 32 plan for $144.19/month. This included
8 cpu cores
32 GB ram
1000GB NVME storage
This calculated out to over $1700/year. For that price I could buy my own server. I decided to build my own wordpress server. I already had a system better than what Bluehost was offering. My server specs:
8 cpu cores
64 GB ram
4TB NVME storage

I was unable to migrate hungryones.com to my own server so I left hungryones.com at Network Solutions and I started a continuation of hungryones called hungryones 2. I now have hungryones2.com running on my own server. The site seems faster. The resource usage on the server is under 50% memory and under 10% cpu. When something breaks I can find the solution using Google or AI. With the money I save I plan on upgrading to a 16 core AMD Zen 7 cpu when they launch. More ram and a PCIe 5.0 ssd may tempt me as well.
It appears Network Solutions has bought out their competition and raised prices. It appears they are squeezing out more profits now that they have a near monopoly. They are providing less support and decreased the disk space in their plans. They are also enforcing limits in their fine print to get you to buy a more expensive plan.
I am quite happy running my own wordpress server. If you want to build your own server google installing apache, mysql, and wordpress.

Thanks!

Looking good Soo. Hope everything works out. Any plans to move your old posts here?
Soo
Thanks Kirk! I did try migrating the old posts but I ran across problems I couldn’t fix. I plan on leaving hungryones.com hosted at hetwork solutions. I reduced the number of files to under 200000 so they are leaving it up.
